1918 | Captain William E. Lawry, 36 year old secretary of the Maine State Senate, was stricken by Spanish influenza while visiting Camp Devens, and died upon his return home, leaving his wife and two young children. His was the first Maine death. 20% of the over 45,000 soldiers at Camp are ill with influenza. | ||
