The “Put-in” point for this trip begins at a small boat launch site in the heart of Maine Woods and Waters National Monument in T3 R8 WELS township. Wassataquoik Stream runs southeast in the township beginning near North Turner Mountain along a stretch of Maine Public Reserved Lands.
The six mile trip ends in another Reserved Land section where it meets the Penobscot River East Branch.
Boulders telegraph the rapids not far from the put-in. Scouting the situation provides an important understanding for the challenging navigation ahead.
