Sakom Township, also known as T5 ND BPP, is certainly a “land of lakes.” Included within it boundaries are major segments of Sysladobis Lake, Pocumus Lake, and Fourth Machias Lake, plus many inlets, coves, bays and two large islands.
The northern portion of the township is Passamaquoddy Indian Territory. The southern portion is crisscrossed with logging roads, one of which leads to Fourth Machias Lake.
A traveler driving on Fourth Lake Road, which is generally a solid, well maintained surface, must be alert to notice the “Fourth Lake Landing” sign to go to the lakeside and cabin. Otherwise the road narrows, becomes sandy, and may present difficulties in bad weather or the lack of a four-wheel drive vehicle.
The cabin site has fine views and access to Fourth Machias Lake. Permission must be obtained to use the premises.
Sakom Township is just west of T6 ND BPP, through which most of Fourth Lake Road winds. The Landing is about twelves miles west of Grand Lake Stream.
