This township in Somerset County is on the Long Falls Dam Road leading to Flagstaff Lake in Dead River Township.
There is virtually no village area. The small community and Highland Plantation to the north have joined forces to create a common fire department.
Happy Horseshoe Campground, on the Dam Road, caters to camper-trailers, providing a recreation hall, swimming pool and other amenities.*
The two highest elevations are Peaked Hill in the north at 1861 feet and Hutchins Hill midway from north to south at 1812 feet.
At 200 acres, Gilman Pond extends primarily into the south being fed by Michael Stream and several others. Gilman Pond is located east of Gilman Pond Mountain (1391 feet elevation). Its main inlet, Sandy Stream, enters the north end of the pond. Two other inlets are Alder Brook, from the north and Clark Brook, from the south. Its outlet, Gilman Stream, flows south into the Carrabassett River. The pond’s shoreline is lightly developed.
