In the Village (2020)

[GREEN-field] was a town in Penobscot County, incorporated on January 29, 1834 from Greenfield Plantation. Even though it was growing in population, Greenfield relinquished its status as a town in 1993 and is now an unorganized township. Much earlier it was known as Township No. 38 Middle Division, Bingham’s Penobscot Purchase (T38 MD BPP). Annexed from Hancock County on March 15, 1858, its peak recorded population of 357 was in 1860.

The Greenfield Road trends East about five miles north of Old Town on U.S. Route 2 in Milford at Costigan (no sign for Costigan).The Road lies on the east side of U.S. Route 2. The road passes through Greenbush for about six miles to the Greenfield Township line.

To reach the village, follow the County Road to the Crocker Turn, turn left on the Crocker Turn Road north to the small village.

A small Baptist Church is in the village area. The Greenfield Road trends northeast from the Church toward Summit Township with several homes near the village.

  1. I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to find where the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield is located. Map Quest doesn’t have it.I have tried “goggling” it. no such luck.

    • You will not find a location or information of the cemetery on line. It is located on Cemetery Hill. Only the hill is noted in the Maine Atlas.

      • There are two cemeteries in Greenfield. One is on Cemetery hill as Larry said, but the other one is on the Crocker Turn rd about 1.5mi from the top of Lambs Hill, on the right hand side.
