This data illustrates the sharp differences in economic output in the various regions of the state. It is a reminder of the success and struggles of people in these counties. But this is not due just a north-south.
While the southern most Cumberland and York counties produce nearly 37% of the state’s GDP, northern Penobscot County adds another 10%, to be in the top five counties in population.
