Shenna Bellows (1975- ) is the first woman to become Maine Secretary of State, beginning in December, 2020. Born on March 23, 1975 in Massachusetts. She has been a non-profit executive director, best known for her work with the American Civil Liberties Union. She had been the State Senator from Maine’s 14th District since 2016 until the Maine Legislature elected her to be Maine Secretary of State in December, 2020.
While in the State Senate she Chaired the legislative committees of Conduct and Ethics, and Labor and Housing. She was a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Joint Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development. Bellows has been active in supporting women’s rights, civil rights, and environmental preservation. She has also received several awards for community service.
