Believing’ in a vigorous and progressive approach to problems of government,

We, the Young Republicans of Maine adopt the following resolutions as our major objectives;

State:

1. We believe that increased state aid is necessary in the fields of education and welfare.

2. We believe that our tax structure must be revised and that new major revenue legislation is necessary to implement this revision.

3. We believe that a modernization of the Constitution is today necessary.

4. We believe that the state administration should be thoroughly studied by a special commission with a view towards increasing its efficiency and economy of operation.

5. We commended the efficient administration of our governor, Frederick G. Payne.

National:

1. We believe in a balanced budget.

2. We believe in the simplification of process of government, and the elimination of waste as advocated by the Hoover Commission report.

3. We believe in an adequate civil rights program including Federal fair employment practice legislation and anti-lynching and anti-poll tax legislation.

4. We approve of the Taft-Hartley Law in principle with amendments.

5. We believe that agricultural support prices should be maintained at a level which will encourage and guarantee to the efficient farmer his production costs and at the same time will not reward the inefficient.

6. We favor the continued investigation of the Quoddy development project with a view to determining its economic feasibility.

7. We favor state administered Federal aid for the furtherance of education.

International:

1. In order to provide for the continued fulfillment of our world responsibility, we believe in a firm bi-partisan foreign policy and the strengthening and implementation of the United Nations.
