Trout Brook Township Campground Baxter Park

This township is home to Trout Brook Farm Campground in Baxter State Park. A park ranger station is here just off the northern most reach of the park’s Tote Road. Trout Brook flows through in a northeasterly direction to enter Grand Lake Matagamon. The brook crosses the Tote Road near the entrance to the South Branch Ponds. Forest products are harvested in the Scientific Forest Management Area.

New Limerick

In the 1880’s the town had a large tannery, two saw mills, and a starch factory. It has frontage on Drew and Nickerson lakes, along with a half-dozen small ponds. See photos. The main village of the town, just west of Houlton, nearly surrounds Nickerson Lake, which it shares with Linneus. It is the birthplace of Dora Pinkham, the first woman to served in the Maine Legislature.

Beaver Cove

named for the cove in the southeastern corner of Moosehead Lake that cuts into it, is north of Greenville on the Lily Bay Road. Lily Bay State Park is nearby. It is an access point for Elephant Mountain and the site of a B-52 bomber crash in 1963. See photos.
