1815 John Chandler who served in Congress 1820-1823; 1823-1825; 1825-1829 as a Democratic-Republican, Crawford Republican, and a Jacksonian, dies. A member of the 1819 Maine Constitutional Convention, he was the Maine Senate’s first President.
1861 Stockton-built vessel Joseph Park is captured by Confederate raiders.
 1918 Lewiston physicians are of the opinion that people in there should not be alarmed over an epidemic of Spanish influenza since there is no local epidemic of anything, just hard colds. Relatives of men sick at Camp Devens go there in large numbers to visit. Relatives of the most critical remain overnight in the camps.
1955 Emma “Grandma” Gatewood is the first woman, and only the second person, to through hike alone the full Appalachian Trail, as she summits Mount Katahdin.
