Bruce Poliquin (1953-     ) was born in Waterville on November 1, 1953. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, graduating in 1972. He then graduated from Harvard University with a degree in economic in 1976.

The 2014 Republican candidate for Congress in Maine’s second congressional district, he won his first popularly elected public office. In a three-way race, he received (unofficially) 47% of the vote to Democrat Emily Cain’s 42%.

Poliquin had previously been elected State Treasurer by the Maine Legislature in 2010, serving until 2012. He was an unsuccessful Republican candidate in the 2012 primary election for U.S. Senate, which featured six candidates.

Poliquin was a resident of Georgetown in Maine’s 1st congressional district when he ran for the U.S. Senate.  He moved his family to Oakland, in the 2nd District, to run for Congress there, a point of controversy during the campaign.

A Kennebec Journal review of land records shows Poliquin, a former state treasurer, owns three homes in Maine, controlling millions of dollars of real estate. He said he moved to Oakland in August, the same month he declared himself a candidate in the race. He registered to vote there in October [of 2013].

Prior to his political career, he was in business  in several positions, including investment management.
