1842 Webster-Ashburton Treaty settling the boundary dispute with England was ratified by Great Britain.
1870
Samuel Cony of Augusta, Maine Governor from 1864 to 1867, dies. An ardent supporter of the Union cause, he was one of the “War Governors.”
1902 Augusta Typographical Union is organized
 1918 Confusion handling the influenza. An official suggested that people drive out to the country side. The suggestion was rescinded based on the need to save fuel for the war effort (World War I). Churches were urged to hold services out of doors. That too was rescinded since it may promote spread the virus.
1979
George J. Mitchell appointed U.S. Attorney for Maine.
