1775 The Benedict Arnold expedition to Quebec arrives at Long Falls.

Birth date of Ebenezer Herrick, who attended the Maine constitutional convention, and was a member of the Maine Senate after retiring from the U.S. Congress

The Royal Tarr, a sidewheel steamer from New Brunswick with ninety people, and a host of  circus animals, leaves port. Four days later people on North Haven and Vinalhaven islands witness a fire aboard, which sank the vessel, killing people and animals.

Great Northern Nekoosa Corporation, known generally as Great Northern Paper Company or GNP, is incorporated as a business corporation.

1918 The emergency hospital in Rockland at the Narragansett Hotel now has 40 patients. The hospital’s needs are being met by an emergency hospital committee made up by women from the eight churches in town.

The Courier Gazette has been publishing the needs for materials; the citizens of Rockland have responded with great generosity.
