Fearless, anti-slavery journalist Elijah Lovejoy, killed by a mob in Illinois in 1837, is later inducted into the Maine Press Hall of Fame.

Shipwreck of the two masted schooner William Rice, built in 1869, blown ashore on Ocean Point at the southern tip of Linekin Neck at Boothbay.
1918 The influenza has hit some Aroostook towns pretty hard. In Caribou, the Knights of Columbus Hall  opened as an emergency hospital, with materials supplied by citizens. Caribou has been unfortunate to have so few physicians at this time. The few available are working day and night.
1978 Amendment to the Maine Constitution passes eliminating the requirement that people pay a poll tax to be eligible to vote.
1995
Voters in referendum “favor requiring all persons to use safety belts in motor vehicles.”
2017
 Voters approve a measure to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Funding needs to be found.
