Birth date in Albion of Elijah Parish Lovejoy an anti-slavery advocate and pioneer in the defense of the freedom of the press. He was killed by a pro-slavery mob in Illinois in 1837.
1849 Shipwreck of the Hanover, a 600 ton clipper ship with a load of Spanish salt en route to Bath, at the mouth of the Kennebec River.

According to the Bath Historical Society, the Bath Independent reported “Bath Iron Works president E.W. Hyde predicted a severe housing shortage when steel becomes available to build the new battleship. Mr. Hyde said BIW would have at least 1200 men on the rolls within the next few months.”
