1834 Catherine “Kate” Furbish was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, first botanic artist in the “Garden of Maine”
1861 Maine vessel A. B. Thompson, built in Brunswick, is captured by Confederate raiders.
1877 Edward Kent of Bangor, Whig Governor (1838-1839), graduate of Harvard College, lawyer and judge, dies in Bangor.
1946 Author Booth Tarkington, who while not a native “Mainer,” had spent summers in the state since 1903 and wrote of Maine characters and places, dies.
