  1888
  The Blizzard of 1888, or “Great White Hurricane” as it was called, paralyzed the East Coast from the Chesapeake Bay to Maine. Two hundred ships were grounded, and at least 100 seamen died. Overall, more than 400 deaths were reported. Southern and parts of western Maine generally received slightly over 10 inches.
