The Encyclopedia began in 2000 with a few hundred articles distributed by CD-ROM. Over the years it expanded to DVD’s to accommodate more articles, videos, and higher resolution still images. Since July 2012 it has been available free on the Internet!

It now has over 1,900 articles, including over 550 articles on individual cities, towns, plantations, and townships; and 300 brief biographical sketches of Maine artists, authors, and politicians; over 5,000 “additional resources” references in articles; over 7,000 original still photos (90%+) and public domain images; over 175 brief videos/slide presentations, and scores of graphic charts. 3,700+ internal links connect people with events, places with people, etc.

The Encyclopedia is a dynamic project, with a commitment to continuous improvement and development. Enjoy, and feel free to provide comments.
