1799 Birth date of Stephen C. Foster in Machias, member of the Maine House of Representatives, the Maine Senate and the U.S. Congress
1814 The Treaty of Ghent ends the War of 1812, which had a major impact on Maine.  The news did not reach Maine until February 1815.
1847
Governor (1839-1843) John Fairfield, who served during the “Aroostook War” and Webster-Ashburton Treaty period, and later a U. S. Senator, dies.
1864
John M. Wood, member of the Maine House of Representatives in 1852 and 1853, owner and publisher of the Portland Daily Advertiser 1853-1857, and a member of the U.S. Congress, dies.
