Chester Greenwood Day to recognize the inventor of earmuffs and “commemorate and honor Chester Greenwood, whose inventive genius and native ability, which contributed much to the enjoyment of Maine’s winter season, marked him as one of Maine’s outstanding citizens.” The “Governor shall annually issue a proclamation inviting and urging the people of the State of Maine to observe this day in suitable places with appropriate ceremony and activity.” (1 MRSA Chapter 5)

2021 Maine CDC reports 137,959 total COVID-19 cases, 98,955,confirmed and 39,004 probable for COVID-19 (Coronavirus); 1,463 deaths to date.  Each of the 16 counties have at least 954 confirmed cases. There have been 3,327 hospitalizations since Covid-19 appeared; this is not the current number hospitalized. Androscoggin County has the most cases at 1.372 per 500 population.
