1635 The vessel Angel Gabriel was wrecked at Pemaquid Point during a deadly storm affecting the New England coast.
1779 The American Penobscot Expedition suffered defeat by British vessels in Penobscot Bay.
1864 Georgetown-built vessel Floral Wreath, Brewer-built James Littlefield, and Maine-built Magnolia are captured by Confederate raiders.
1937 Appalachian Trail is formally completed with the clearing of a two-mile section in the Maine woods and with a final link made between Sugarloaf and Spaulding Mountains.
